"We haven't been as clinical, but that'll come. We've created some great chances, our press was really, really good for the majority of the game and our fitness levels were good. Some of our creative play was really good."

"I've got a real problem picking a team on August 8, I've got a real problem even selecting substitutes because there are going to be some really good players, people who have done tremendously over pre-season, who are not involved. It's going to be tough."
"I love going back to Hartlepool. I've been back a few times, I've had to go in disguise a couple of times but with the change of ownership now, I can't wait to get back again."
"As a fan, I'd love us to go up automatically. I'm a realist, and sometimes you need to give teams a little bit of time to gel."
"All the new signings look really encouraging, I think Lee Clark's got a good staff in place. It seems right, it really does seem right this year."
"It's nice to be feeling excited leading up to the new season for a change, there's been a lot of doom and gloom over the last few years."

"Those types of tackles can be ones that open your knee up a bit but maybe, hopefully, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it was the initial strong impact that jarred it and it might settle down."
Hartlepool United head coach Lee Clark has lauded the "hungry" and "ambitious" Nathan Fisher after he became the club's 14th summer signing on Sunday.
"He's a young goalkeeper with outstanding potential who's come through one of the best academy systems in the country and we believe this is the right stage of his career to take the next step into senior football."
"You only have to look at what he did here last season. He was one of the best defenders in the National League and his performances showed exactly what he can bring to a team. When a player performs at that level and you get the chance to sign him permanently, it's one you want to make happen."
"I'm from the North East, so I know exactly the size of this football club and how much it means to the supporters. You can see the ambition around the club as soon as you walk through the door and that's something that really stood out to me."

"I've kept an eye on everything that's been happening since the end of last season and it's been exciting to see the progress the club has made, both on and off the pitch."
"I did still think there were lots of positives as well, some of our pressing was of the highest quality and we created numerous chances. I think the lads at least deserved to score a goal, if not more. It wasn't to be."
