"When I came back, I have to be honest, I wasn't really expecting them to applaud me. It meant a lot, it was a special moment for me personally."

"I wasn't able to show what I can fully do under Feaths. I spoke to him, had a conversation with him and there's no bad blood. I just said to him, 'I want to leave because I genuinely want to play football'. Sutton came in and now I'm playing pretty much every single game."
"At the end of the day, they've got quality but so have we. I think they've got more quality now than they did last year, but we've improved a lot too. We'll see what happens on Saturday."
Hartlepool United midfielder Jamie Miley is hoping the 2026/27 campaign will be "a massive season for both me and the club".
"It's always difficult at Sutton, I don't think I've won there in my career so far. Then again, I hadn't won at Aldershot either, so hopefully we can go and do the same on Saturday."
"I've got headaches all over the pitch, so if I bring more players in I'm going to give myself more headaches. It's hard enough to pick an XI already, so if I keep bringing in more players then I'm just giving myself a problem. There are going to be more disappointed players sitting in the stands who I'm gutted I've left out."
"We're looking at windows ahead, January and next summer as well. We've got a good recruitment base now and a library of players who could potentially come into the football club, so we can act quickly."
"We're giving them total respect, we're expecting a very, very tough match. Having watched the games back, it's no fluke that they are where they are."
Our editor Robbie Stelling has made his National League predictions as Hartlepool United bid to maintain their 100 per cent start to the new campaign ahead of a long trip to Sutton United.

"People know how much this football club and the town means to me, it's lovely to feel like a proper part of it."

Hartlepool United are bidding to continue their perfect start to the new National League season when they make the long trip to South London to take on a Sutton United side who have themselves won both of their first two matches this term. "The time when he raced off his line to head the ball clear, superb. There were times when you thought he wasn't going to get there, but he always, always got there."
"I'm looking at our options, McNally and Kouogun or Gibson in the heart of the defence, Cam John on the left and either Jay Benn or Neo Eccleston on the other side. Who's going to score against us, especially with the goalkeeper we've got?"

"The combination we've got at this moment in time of young, hungry players coupled with experienced lads who are making huge contributions as well is going very well."
"If you'd said to me at the end of last season that Sheron and Hunter would have been our central-midfield two again, I'd have said, 'no chance, that's not happening'. Credit to them, they did brilliantly."
"He's another player who's made it extremely difficult in terms of picking a team, but I want that. I'm loving all that, so credit to Max."

"We didn't control the middle of the pitch like we would have wanted to for large periods of the first half. That extra player they had in there made it quite difficult for us."
"I'm sure if the penalty hadn't gone over the bar, he'd have saved that as well. We're absolutely delighted with the impact he's made."
"This is very unique for British players but my boys have been fantastic to a man and they've given absolutely everything."
"It's perfect, he allows me to do my job and he doesn't interfere in anything at all. It's great, he's put good people into the right positions and he's letting them get on with their jobs."
"I would have looked at those two games last season, and we might well have ended up with one point from them. We seem to have a completely different mentality this season, there's a different mentality around the whole club."

"It's a top squad, a top set of lads. There's a real buzz around the place, hopefully it continues."
Hartlepool United maintained their 100 per cent start to the new National League season by getting the better of a spirited Aldershot Town side on Saturday. Here's what our editor Robbie Stelling made of the Pools players following another positive afternoon in Hampshire.

"It's tremendous, to have two wins from two and no goals conceded. The desire of the players, the application of the players, all the credit is on their shoulders."
